XT500 Racer
« on: January 09, 2016, 08:19:55 PM »
This years project is going to be a cafe based on an XT500. Started by removing the frame from the swingarm mounts on back.
Fitted a new swingarm from an XS650, which is about two inches longer.
Since it is also wider and used a bigger wheel axle I turned a new one and made the appropriate spacers to use the stock xt hub.

Also made some chain tensioners from scratch.

Turned the brake drum to true it and give it a good bite.

The hubs were soda blasted and somewhat polished and clear coated with Everbrite. Don't want it real shiny this time.

Hubs will be sent off to Woody's Wheels and will be laced to 18" Aluminum rims with custom made stainless spokes.

I wanted to keep the stock hubs for a more retro look, function follows form sometimes.
The forks will get new progressive springs. Rear shocks will probably be Hagons.

That lathe is waaay too clean!!!
When I was an apprentice in the old country my boss would walk through the shop Friday afternoon fondling the machines ,sticking his finger
in every nook and gap and if there was a spec of oil or god forbid a chip you'd come in on Saturday for a deep cleaning
I don't want to come in on saturday
