1979 Suzuki GS1000...code name; "Project Zook"
« on: June 19, 2012, 12:17:34 PM »
Some of you have heard my ideas about building my son Josh a custom bike to give to him when he finishes his service in the Marine Corp. Well, I have kept my eye out, and was hoping for a late 70's ish KZ, GS, etc., and this weekend I was blessed to find this beauty. My good friend who is a missionary with his family in Thailand, had purchased this bike a couple years ago to work on when he was home on furlow. They have been home for a few weeks now and getting ready to head back, and mentioned to me that he was going to sell it, and of course I said I would buy it from him. After a short pause, he told me; "its yours, I am going to give it to you". Wow! So now I have a bike to build for Josh. I am thinking mono shock rear end, upside down fork, maybe painted up like a fighter jet?

Thank you Ray, you rock brother!  8)

Behold....."Project Zook"

Good deal!
But we gotta burn that ugly seat, it would be the right thing to do...

Ha ha, yup, the seat is the first thing to go! And second is the handlebars  8) In fact, when we rolled it up into the garage, Ray said: "first thing is to take this seat and throw it as far as you can".  ;D

I took a better look this eve, and with only a couple of minor things, mostly cleaning, this beast would be road worthy. It is actually in pretty good shape. Oh, and I forgot to mention, it has a title, and only 21,000 miles.

Free bike with TITLE! Can't beat that.
Should make a good mile burner too, if he wishes to do some traveling.
Hope I can find a deal like that after I sell the Buell...

Yea, did you know that because of having a CDL license that a 25mph over ticket is a FELONY!?!? ANd a 90 day suspension.
I can do that in first gear with one eye closed...

Yup Eric, this one is going to be sweet, and yes, this one might just blow away the KZ. As far as Josh being a lucky son, it is actually the other way around, it is me who is the lucky one. Josh is putting his butt on the line protecting us from America's enemies, and keeping our freedoms safe, to build a bike like this for him is the least I can do to say "thank you son, I am proud of ya".  8)

So yup, I am one lucky pop!

Well, it was just too painfull to look at the ugliness of the tank any longer, so it is now under the knife, and will at least get into primer stage. I also cant stand to go into the garage and see the heinous handlebars, so they will get swapped out with some temporary low rise ones in the next day or so.  8)
