Show Off / Oh no! Another Bike!?!?
« on: May 01, 2017, 08:16:21 PM »

This poor little orphan bike followed me home today!
Chris already named it DeWalt.
I paid too much for it, but the super deal I got on my sportster evens it out, I guess...

Upcoming Events/Meetings / 2016 Soulstice Ride
« on: December 03, 2016, 01:59:21 PM »
Yes kiddos, it is once again time to ride and freeze our butts off!
Saturday, December 17th...
Meet at the Trailhead Coffee Shop (previously known as the Laughing Dog) on the Southwest corner of Broadway and Monument Road @ 10:00hrs.
Then we will depart from there down hiway 340 thru Fruita to the border of Utah on old hiway 6.
Afterwards we will head back to Fruita to eat lunch. Place to be determined while at the border.
Remember, even if it feels nice, dress in very warm gear. After 30 miles at 60mph it WILL get cold!

Thanks Craig for reminding me to post this up!

It is July 7-10th at the fairgrounds, right downtown.

« on: April 15, 2016, 02:54:00 PM »
I need some more used rear street sprockets for building the First Place Trophys this year!
I need 4 more this weekend to get started ASAP (I'm running behind schedule).
Also some spark plugs. Like 7 or 8 of them.
I cleaned my shop last winter and I guess I threw away too much stuff.
Call me at 243.5094 or drop by 1127 Main St.

Oh, yeah, and a dancing banana.  :banana

Upcoming Events/Meetings / Soulstizz Ride 2015
« on: December 15, 2015, 08:05:25 AM »
OK! So I guess I need to make this official.
All the foolhearted that wish to do the ride this year can meet here at my house for coffee (Toucan) and donuts at 10:00hrs, then we will depart from here at 11:00hrs. This should get us to the border as things start warming up for a celebratory shot, smoke, bull session, or whatever.
Then we will back-track to Fruita for lunch.
The weather is looking good for next Saturday, but still dress warm! And be fueled up (the bike).

Finally after 2 years it is running again. Actually the first time since 1980!

Brenna and I took on this project a long time ago, and I've finally brought myself to try to finish it.
It is a 1965, and I'm surprised at how many parts are still available for it.

Mechanical Zone / Finally killed my Ural?
« on: May 21, 2015, 07:23:10 PM »
So I've been doing some projects in the shop that required me to park the Ural in the driveway, outside for a few days.
I went to start it up today at noon and it, at first, acted like it didn't want to turn over. It finally began cranking ok, but ran like crap, firing on only one cylinder. I only ran it for about 20 seconds, then decided to not run it anymore till I checked deeper.
I could tell it wasn't hitting on the port-side cylinder, so I knelt down to look and realized there was water pouring out of that exhaust pipe drain hole! DAMNIT!!!
I drained the crankcase and got about as much water as oil. The port-side carb was full of water, and the air inlet pipe had water in it as well. The air cleaner seems to have been where the water came in, but how? I have ridden this thing in torrential downpours and have left it in the rain before, with no problems.
I flushed and dried everything, filled 'er back up with essential fluids. I put in new plugs and fuel filters too, just 'cause I never have before.
I just ran it around downtown and it runs and sounds good.
I can't believe that much water was from rain, or grand-kids playing "gas station" with the garden hose?
Will it cough out a piston in the Utah desert soon?

Upcoming Events/Meetings / 2014 Solstice Ride!!! December 20th.
« on: December 07, 2014, 06:09:09 PM »
Saturday the 20th!!!
We annually do a ride to the border of Utah on the old hiway 6 as close to the winter solstice as possible.
This will be the 15th or 19th wheneveral trip. It all started because of Hunter S. Thompson, anyway.
We will be meeting at the Laughing Dog Coffee Shop at Broadway and Monument Road at 9:00am and leave there at about 10:00.
Normally we ride down Broadway to Fruita and then out to the border on the old hiway. After some bike discussion, and taking in the scenery we will return to Fruita for a lunch break at Tapatio's on the South side of the interstate.
Remember to dress warm and fuel up before meeting at the coffee shop.
For more info call me (Rick) at 243.5094.

Some medical bills are forcing me to sell some bikes. I thought I'd offer them here before doing craigslist.
First up is my 1994 Yamaha Combat II (Seca II) 16,000mi. Needs valve adjust, chain and sprockets, and cosmetics.
$1,100 or best offer.

Next is the 1973 Yamaha RD250. 13,842mi. New standard rings and every part made of rubber. Too many new parts to list. Needs only paint.
I need to get about $3,000 for this bike.

And finally my Waterbuffalo (1972 Suzuki GT750).
Started to do a cafe race build to this bike, but I still have all the parts if someone wanted to restore it.
Have installed Omar's Cafe bars, rear set controls, retro shocks, 3-into-one grand prix pipe, 1/4 fairing, and it also features a Rick Barnes Designs bum-stopper seat pan.
All bearings, forks, and brakes are rebuilt. Frame has been painted. Engine is not rebuilt, but was running great when I dis-assembled the bike.
I bought this bike from the original owner, who bought it new in Monte Vista.
Features one-year-only Mikuni slide carbs, and Double leading shoe front brake that is worth $1,000 alone.
I would like to  get $3,000 for this too.

Before pic:
I started a build log on this website if you want more detailed pics.

You guys can tell me if I'm crazy for what I'm asking.
Rick: 970.243.5094
May have more to offer up before all this is done, stay tuned...
