General Discussion / Important announcement about the website
« on: October 07, 2017, 06:24:12 PM »
Hello All,

The domain name for Westerncovintage.com will be expiring at the end of 2017 (yes, that will be at the end of December). Many years have gone by since I originally started the site, and I have had a lot of fun, as I am sure all of you on here have. After much consideration, and a decision that was not easy to make, I will not be renewing the domain name. What this means, is that westerncovintage.com will no longer be active under my name, and will go offline. However, it is open to transfer if someone else is willing to take over the monitoring and financial expense of the site so it can continue.

As mentioned, I have truly enjoyed being a part of the Western Colorado Vintage Motorcycle Association, have made some great friends, enjoyed many many incredible rides and activities together, and I consider myself to be wonderfully blessed to have shared a passion for motorcycles with you all for the last 11 years. I am not going anywhere and will still be around, but it is time for me to pursue other adventures with my growing family.

Thanks to everyone for being a part of the team!

Blessings,

Rick Barnes

For Sale / The Mighty Ape must go...
« on: August 31, 2017, 09:08:55 PM »
Welp, I have made the decision to let the Mighty Aprilia go on the auction block. Going to try and get into a sport tourer, maybe an FJR 1300 or the like. So saying that, my 2002 Aprilia ETV1000 Caponord is up for sale. About 33K miles on the clock, runs really well, most service records all kept in a nice folder, recent diagnostic test at Erico Motorsports in Denver with a clean bill of health. Givi top box, Givi pannier rack with Doskocil side boxes, and a few extra bits. Asking $3800 OBO. I am the second owner, with the original owner being a good friend, and I know he kept very good care of her. Those that know me, know how meticulous I am with all of my vehicles, with this motorcycle being no exception, and know that it slept peacefully in my garage. Give me a call or message me here if interested. 970-216-8633

Sorry about all the spammers recently folks, seems that someone has opened their cage and they got loose  :vvangry I changed the registration security questions, hopefully this will help a little. I probably have deleted 18-20 spam accounts just today, they are keeping me on my toes.....

General Discussion / House Cleaning.... clearing inactive members
« on: July 25, 2016, 09:20:29 PM »
Howdy Folks,

In an effort to clear up space and tidy things up on our site, I have taken the approach to clear/delete any members that have not logged in for 1 1/2 years. This has cleared out literally hundreds of spam accounts that I have banned over the years (probably more accurately in the thousands). Unfortunately though, it has also cleared some members that are legit, but have not contributed in a long time.

If you are reading this, are one of the members that have been away for a while, tried to log in but were cleared, my apologies. Please create a new account, we would love to hear from you again.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic summer and burning up some tread!

Lets Ride! / Saturday July 23rd, Snowmass Ice Age Exhibit
« on: July 10, 2016, 08:35:11 PM »
As some of you out there in vintage motorcycle land know, I am also involved with the Western Slope Mazda Miata car group. Well, saying that, we have had a suggestion to invite the motorcycle group on our next adventure on Saturday July 23rd to visit the Ice Age Exhibit in Snowmass. And since Mazda Miata's are close the the same size as motorcycles, it seems like a good fit..... after all, what is a couple extra wheels amongst friends right?  :banana

Here are the details of the trip:

This will be a trip to the Snowmass Ice Age Exhibit in Snowmass Village. We will plan to take the boring route to get there, but will plan to come back over McClure Pass...we might even try a stop at Drost chocolates in Cedaredge on the way back. We'll head out from Slice Of Life Bakery on 3rd St in Downtown Palisade, and make the 2 hour trip via I-70 through Glenwood Springs on Hwy 82 to Snowmass. We will want to be on the road by 9:00 am, so plan to show up early at the bakery if you want to indulge in their fantastic eats and chat with the group.

This will be a very interesting site to visit, I remember hearing all about it when the first discoveries were made 6 years ago, and it was national news. The admission is free, so that is an extra bonus! We will also plan to eat some lunch at the Snowmass Village Mall ....anyone know a good spot? Plan a full day for this adventure.

Check out their website:
http://www.gosnowmass.com/things-to-do/ice-age-discovery/snowmass-discovery-center/[gosnowmass.com]

If you are out of the Grand Junction area and want to meet up with us in Snowmass, we should be arriving about 11:15 ish and we would love to see ya!

Here is a last minute announcement....I just found out about this;

There is a documentary about several guys doing an Adventure motorcycle ride through Colorado (I think it is sponsored by BMW??) showing for one night only at the Regal Cinema 14 here in Grand Junction (For those out of the area, it may be showing in your local theater). It is called “A Story Worth Living”, and all I know about it is from the trailer, but it looks like it might be pretty good.

Here is a link to the YouTube trailer, as well as to the theater for show info. I believe it starts at 7:30 pm, and is a one night only for tomorrow eve 5/19

General Discussion / Outdoor bike nights??????
« on: March 25, 2016, 07:26:03 PM »
Ok, it is almost to the point of meeting outdoors for Thursday bike nights. I think most folks are tired of Sonic, food is just so so and the service is terrible. However, it does offer plenty of tables and our precious motorcycles are right there in plain sight. I personally would like to find a new spot, so lets open this thread up to suggestions.

A couple of things to consider:

A central location...
Good food...
Outdoor tables....
Motorcycles in plain view....
And COFFEE  }v

A friend has suggested Enzo's on Horizon dr. to me today. I think that is a fabulous idea, with plenty of parking for the motorcycles in plain view of the patio. Downfall is that seating might be very limited, and could be a bit pricey for just a hang out night.

What say you?
